Integrated Transport Plan

Community consultation has now opened on Council’s Integrated Transport Plan which will help to ensure our region’s local infrastructure is able to meet the demands of the Scenic Rim’s growing population in coming decades.

This is the first time Council has undertaken a comprehensive study of the Scenic Rim’s transport needs and I encourage everyone to share their views and ideas.

  • Canungra Law

An important first step towards developing the Integrated Transport Plan will be understanding residents’ experiences of getting around the region – not only via the local road network but also walking paths, cycling routes and public transport.

Please have your say, either through the online Let’s Talk Scenic Rim community engagement platform or through in-person sessions, before the consultation closes on Monday 2 September 2024.

Traffic Master Plan

Council relies heavily on other levels of government for funding to deliver its projects and programs and will be seeking Australian Government grant funding for a traffic infrastructure master plan for Canungra under the Precincts and Partnerships Program. A traffic infrastructure master plan is long overdue and a vital first step in overcoming the ever increasing traffic and parking issues in the town.

Bushfire Season

As Chair of the Scenic Rim’s Local Disaster Management Group, and as a member of the Canungra Rural Fire Brigade, I urge everyone to start preparing for bushfire season which will be upon us sooner rather than later if the current dry conditions continue. Always remember that a fire permit issued by a fire warden is needed before lighting a fire more than 2m in any direction. There is a comprehensive list of fire wardens on the Community Noticeboard page of the Canungra Times. Nobody wants to be ‘that’ person who lights a small fire that quickly gets out of control, placing people, animals and property at risk!

Check your insurance, prepare your property and make sure you have a bushfire survival plan in place so that everyone in your household knows what to do in an emergency.

If you have not already done so, sign up to the Scenic Rim Disaster Dashboard which carries potentially lifesaving information.

Best regards,

Steve
