St Luke’s Anglican Church were successful in receiving a grant of $2,310 from the Community Grant Minor Round 2 2023-2024, which was the full amount they requested.
This grant will be used to upgrade the church’s switchboard and electrical wiring, which was installed in 1963. The church will be putting an additional $531 towards the project.
Due to the use of a fridge, microwave, urn, lights and heaters in winter, and the age of the switchboard, the overload switch has been frequently tripping, said John King.
“The new switch board will prevent current outages that occur in the winter and make provision for a future stove or oven in the adjacent pavilion and an air conditioner in the church,” said John.
“One undersize power cable to the adjacent pavilion will also be upgraded and a sub-board installed in the pavilion.”
Local electrician Tristan Siegertsz undertook the work in July. A working bee was held prior to the start of his work to dig a trench between the church and the pavilion to install the upgraded power cable.
The Canungra Area Golf Club and Canungra Sports and Recreational Reserve Grounds also received funding to design a website and to extend the concrete path in front on the Men’s Shed and Canungra Show Society Shed.
Scenic Rim Regional Council allocated more than $75,000 in minor grants to 22 not for profit organisations which contribute to the quality of life enjoyed by many across the region.
