A UNIQUE program started by women in Canungra is designed to assist people in need of ability aids.

Robyn Mahony said the scheme was instigated by the Canungra Craft Group.

“Every time someone had an accident or fall they’d need a shower chair, or a toilet seat, or crutches,” she said.

“We started collecting things. They are free to borrow, we just record names in a book and lend them on the understanding that people will return things when they don’t need them anymore – it is based on honesty.”

Driving further afield to collect these things can be onerous when someone is unwell or injured so the program is all about community supporting community.

“We would like another wheelie walker and a wheelchair that can go into the pool of equipment if anyone has one.”

If anyone has an item they would like to donate to the program please contact Robyn Mahony on 0418 435 528.
