Sportspeople of the month are the Canungra Ladies Golf Club – Interclub Pennant Matchplay Team.
The Interclub Matchplay Trophy series originated in 1986 as a way of encouraging higher handicapped ladies into the Matchplay format of golf in a team environment.
Since that year, Canungra, along with teams from Windaroo, Mt Warren Park, Carbrook, Beaudesert, Meadowbrook, River Lakes, Helensvale, Gainsborough Greens and Parkwood have contested for the honour of retaining the trophy for their club.
This year our Canungra Ladies Team, consisting of Kim Sami, Jo Windle, Sharon Faulks, Leigh Parsons, Kathy Darlington, Bella Stoneham, Pam McAllan and Michelle Day were successful in winning the series. The last time Canungra won the series was in 2009, so an outstanding achievement for the team!
A special mention goes out to the partnership of Jo Windle & Kim Sami who only lost half a point over the 5 rounds.
